Drugs for Weight Loss

Xenical has been shown to reduce the absorption of certain fat-soluble vitamins auh as Vitamin D. Supplementing with fat-soluble vitamins (in multivitamin) is recommended if using Xenical. Separate doses of the vitamin and the drug by at least two hours.

Osteoporosis Medications

Recommend vitamin D supplementation for patients taking drugs for osteoporosis. Vitamin D is necessary for bone health and optimal absorption and utilization of calcium for bone.
Acid-Suppressing Drugs

Recent studies have shown an increased risk of fractures in older patients who take acid-reducing medications chronically due to reduced absorption of calcium. Vitamin D is essential for optimal absorption and utilization of calcium.
Arthritis Medications

Vitamin D provides anti-inflammatory and immune modulating properties that may help reduce pain and discomfort associated with arthritis.
Antidepressants

There are a few studies that suggest that vitamin D deficiency may be a factor in seasonal affective disorder, and low mood.

Osteoporosis Medications

Caution patients about additional vitamin D supplementation if taking Fosamax Plus D. Fosamax Plus D contains 2800 IU of vitamin D. Be cautious that supplementation with additional vitamin D does not exceed 5000 IU daily.

A daily multivitamin will help ensure adequate intake of all essential nutrients and promote overall health and well-being.
PMS

400 IU/day. Vitamin D supplementation may help with some symptoms of PMS. There is evidence that abnormalities in calcium and vitamin D regulation may contribute to the causation of PMS.
Depression ( or Mood disorder)

Studies show that people suffering from low moods may have lower blood levels of vitamins B6, B12 , folic acid and vitamin D which are essential in maintaining emotional well-being.
